January 2018 Moon Forecast

Overall, January isn’t shying away from emotions, but there’s an underlining current around work and getting work done. It’s Capricorn season so there will be a emphasis on structure, goals, and how you set up your time and use it in order to meet your goals.

Full Moon

On January 1 at 9:24 pm EST, we have a Full Moon in Cancer, along with a grand trine in water (Mars and Jupiter are both in Pisces). This trine emphasis the intuitive and psychic energy that goes along with Cancer. This makes the Full Moon on January 1 a deeply emotional and intuitive time. Cancer is all about the home and family, as well as security and nourishment. What can you do to nourish your body? What about your home? Perhaps it could use some nourishment via cleaning up after the holidays, or maybe a home cooked meal can nourish your body as well as your soul. As the wheel turns into the new year, pause and sit with your emotions. Slow down. What emotions are coming up for you? What is this Full Moon illuminating for you? Is there some emotional wound or baggage that you need to excavate before the real work begins this year?

Meanwhile, the Sun is in Capricorn (the workaholic of the zodiac) and as I’ve mentioned previously, the Moon is in Cancer (the emotional sign of home). This opposition is calling us to examine our work life balance. Where are the scales tilting for you? Now, there will never be a true balance, as the parts of our life are always moving, and we’re always adapting to those moving parts. But now is the time to bring an awareness to this area and make note of any changes you want to move forward with.

Last Quarter Moon

January 8 in Libra at 5:25 pm EST is the Last Quarter Moon this month.

If the work/life balance theme of the January 1 Full Moon struck a cord with you, perhaps use the waning energy of this Last Quarter Moon to release any habits or things that were getting in the way of making progress to the work/life balance you’d like to achieve. Perhaps you no longer want to keep work emails on your phone, or want to stop work at a certain time each day. Release what is no longer serving you here and rest before the New Moon.

New Moon

On January 16 at 9:17 pm EST, the New Moon in Capricorn occurs. With both the Moon and Sun in Capricorn, the universe is asking you what your purpose or dream is. Capricorn is a goal oriented leader. Capricorn has a dream and is going to reach it. What is your dream? Where are you putting your focus and your energy? Your time is precious, how are you spending it? What structures do you need to put in place or revamp to help you reach your dream? Maybe you’re spending too much time surfing the web or scrolling through social media. Or maybe you’re not making time for exercise or your spiritual needs, and pushing your body and mind to the point that there is no support or rejuvenation period. Remember, you have to have a strong foundation in order to do your best work, so make sure you’re taking the time to meet all of your needs before jumping into work and your to-do list.

Use this New Moon to set an intention for this year, maybe even incorporating your Word of the Year. Right now the sea goat has his eye on the goal, are you ready to do the work to claim it?

First Quarter Moon

January 24 at 5:20 pm EST is the First Quarter Moon in Taurus.

The Moon is exalted in Taurus, which means here the Moon is functioning at its optimum. A Taurus Moon is grounded, secure, balanced, romantic, and nourished. With Taurus however, you need to do watch out for the urge to overindulge.

While Taurus does like to slow down (and smell the roses), it’s grounded plodding can make for a steady progress approach during the waxing moon, when you should be making actionable strides towards your New Moon intention.

Full Moon

On January 31 at 8:27 am EST, we have a Full Moon in Leo. Full Moons illuminate and no one likes the spotlight more than Leo. Claim your space and say what you mean, but be mindful to not purposely ruffle any feathers. Don’t roar unless you need to.

This Blue Moon (the second Full Moon in a calendar month) is also a Total Lunar Eclipse, so expect emotions to be higher than your typical Full Moon. Check out if you’ll be able to see the eclipse in your area here.

This January, there will be two Full Moons, one of January 1, and one (the blue moon) on January 31. Click To Tweet
